Alpine 10 – Invited Speakers

We are happy to announce that the following speakers have already accepted to participate: Sharon Ashbrook (St Andrews, UK), Clare Grey (Cambridge, UK), Arno P.M. Kentgens (Nijmegen, NL), Guido Pintacuda (Lyon, F), Tatyana Polenova (Newark, DE), Jeffrey A. Reimer (Berkeley, CA), Chad Rienstra (Urbana, IL), and Robert Tycko (Bethesda, MD).

Alpine 9 – Venue to Chamonix

Chamonix Mont-Blanc is about 1 hour from Geneva Airport and 2 hours from Lyon by car.

 
Conference Center: Le Majestic
 
All conference activities will take place in the conference center "Le Majestic", situated in the center of the picturesque city of Chamonix Mont-Blanc.
 
  This former luxury hotel, that was built at the turn of the nineteenth century, used to be frequented by the most renowned political, literary and artistic personalities. Located in the heart of the resort, this prestigious convention center has recently been fully renovated.
 

Conference Schedule:
 
  Registration will be open at the conference center from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday 10th September. The conference activities start with a welcome reception and a dinner at 7pm on sunday night.
 
  There will be a free afternoon on Tuesday, and a banquet on Wednesday night. The Office du Tourisme will have a stand in the Conference center and will be happy to provide you with ideas for your free time, or for accompanying persons.
 

Conference Fee:
 
The conference fee of 580€ includes registration costs, all lunches from Monday through Wednesday, dinners on Sunday and Tuesday nights, as well as the banquet on Wednesday night (dinner on Monday night is not included).
 

Accompanying Person:
 
A limited number of places are available for accompanying persons. These places will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
 
The accompanying person fee (320€) includes access to the conference center as well as meals and refreshments during the conference, and the banquet on Wednesday night.
 
Accompanying persons are not permitted to attend the lectures.

Single and double bedroom accomodation has been reserved in comfortable hotels, close to the conference center:
 
• The Grand Hôtel des Alpes is an elegant and charming four star hotel located in the heart of the city (5 min. walk to the conference center).
 
• Park Hôtel Suisse is a four star traditional mountain hotel located next door to the conference center.
 
• Four star Héliopic Hotel Sweet and Spa is a contemporary and cosy hotel located at the foot of Aiguille du Midi lift (10 min. walk to the conference center).
 
• Le Prieuré is a comfortable recent three star hotel next to the conference center.
 
• The Hotel du Louvre is a two star, fully renovated, hotel in downtown Chamonix.
 
  Hotel tarifs include breakfast and local tax. All prices are per person per night based on double occupancy for twin rooms. For hotel reservation a two night deposit for your stay is required.

Venue to Chamonix Mont-Blanc:
 
Chamonix Mont-Blanc is the European capital of mountaineering, alpine skiing and adventure sports.
 
  It mixes trendy boutiques, busy bars and elegant restaurants with shops selling "state of the art" mountaineering equipment.
 
  This site of the 1st Winter Olympics in 1924, which is equally attractive in winter or summer, is set in a deep valley, against the Massif du Mont Blanc.

Chamonix Mont-Blanc is about 1 hour from Geneva Airport and 2 hours from Lyon by car.
 
  There will be buses from Geneva airport at 18h30 on Saturday 09th of September, 14h00 and 17h30 on Sunday 10th of September.
 
  In order to guarantee your places on a bus, please book the desired number of seats in one of these busses upon registration process. We cannot guarantee that there will be a place for you on the bus, if you have not reserved.
 
  Please note that Geneva Airport is in Switzerland and you may need a Swiss visa, even if you are not staying in Switzerland.
 
  Busses back to Geneva after the conference ends on Thursday will be organised during the meeting. These busses should leave Chamonix at 12h30 and 14h00, and should allow you to arrive at Geneva airport at 14h00 and 15h30, respectively.
 
 If your travel schedule does not allow you to catch the conference bus, you can either use public transportation or rent a car. Public transportation is relatively slow, especialy by train.
